program includes:
• Free 10-week multi-discipline training program
• Introduction to general machining, tool & die, industrial millwright, mining & welding
• 8-week paid workplace placement
• Support to find in-demand jobs & apprenticeships!


The Skills2Advance Industrial Trades program provides students with the opportunity to try a trade with an introduction to welding, machining, industrial millwright and tool and die trades. A brief introduction to mining careers is also included.
Successful completion of the program will earn participants many certifications including: Horizontal and Flat SMAW CSA 47.1 FW Classification welding qualification, Certificate of Completion micro-credential, forklift license, Standard First Aid with CPR-C, Working at Heights, Health and Safety and more!
The program will also include a paid 8-week workplace placement with the potential to lead to employment.

Program Details
10 Weeks Training
• Health & safety
• Introduction to SMAW (stick welding)
• Basics of AutoCAD & CNC routing
• Introduction to machining tools (lathe, mill, drill press)
• Basics trades math
• Tool & die theory (die components and functions, basic mold and die design)
• Millwright introduction (Precision instruments, tool identification and safe handling, introduction to lubrication)
• Introduction to mining & sustainable practices
• Standard First Aid with CPR-C
• Forklift License
• Working at Heights
• Overhead Crane Operation (Theory)
• Literacy & basic skills upgrading
• Workshops on resume writing, interview skills, mental health, workplace culture, financial literacy and more!
8 Weeks Placement
• Paid placement by employer
• Required placement starts after training is complete (dates can vary)
• Full-time, up to 40 hours per week
• Wages range starting at minimum wage
• Staff will assist you in finding a placement but students are also required to job search on their own
• Placements could lead to employment and/or apprenticeship and better quality of life
• Placement/Job positions vary, see potential careers for more info
• All students must complete a placement to the best of their ability
After the Training & Placement
Skills2Advance will support you in:
• Finding employment in the manufacturing or construction industries
• Finding apprenticeship resources
• Pursuing further training & education

Who’s Eligible
• 16+ years old
(If you are 16 or 17 years old you must have a high school diploma or equivalent )
• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. Exceptions will be reviewed on an individual basis
• Legally entitled to work in Canada (Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, Refugee/Protected Person)
• Has reliable transportation to attend training locations on specified dates
• Lives in one of the following areas: Brantford, Brant, Norfolk, Haldimand, Six Nations, The Credit, Hamilton, Kitchener, Cambridge, Waterloo & Oxford
• Must be ready to work full-time in manufacturing, construction or other industrial industries
• Self-identify as either a youth (age 16-29), female, low-income, barriered, person with a disability, Indigenous, Racialized Person or 2SLGBTIQA+
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Able to crouch, kneel, stoop, bend
• Manual dexterity ability
• Comfortable with digital technology (computer, phone etc.)
• Able to stand for up to 8 hours a day and perform physically demanding tasks regularly
• Able to commit to different working shifts
• Able to work for a wage between $17.60 - $25 approximately an hour
